Somehow, you don’t hear enough about how beautiful a spot to visit, Sicily, in Italy, can be. Not nearly as much as much as Rome, Naples or Venice do you hear about Sicily. The island of Sicily is the ball that the boot of Italy is eternally poised to kick. The most important tourist destination in Sicily is the Aci Trezza beach resort. If you look into the sea from here, you see several little islands – known as the Cyclops Islands. Folklore has it that those islands are the rocks thrown at the mythical character of Odysseus. If you could time your vacation in Italy around the time in June that the Festival of John the Baptist takes place, you could be sure of a colorful introduction to the culture of Sicily. The Sicilians certainly know how to throw a party, eat, drink and make merry. It could be an unforgettable time.
People coming in for a vacation in Italy often want to find a place that not every tourist knows about. They want to be able to experience the real Italy as it were, uncontaminated by tourist attention. In Sicily, the little hamlet of Sperlinga, well out of the average tourist reach up a mountain, could be exactly the place you seek if this is what interests you. It’s a perfectly beautiful little picture book village nestled into the side of a mountain. The homes here are literally carved into the hills, and it’s a living and breathing village. Modernity hasn’t really touched this place yet, and all through the way you drive there, you could be in for sights and sounds from another time.
With the whole world coming to Italy’s doorstep to experience its culture and tradition, where exactly does the Italian go to experience Italian tradition and culture? To Sicily, is where. To begin with, the Valley of the Temples is a must-see attraction in Sicily, if you want to experience the land the way Italians do. It has quite a few ancient Greek shrines all laid out one next to the other. It’s hard to tell what time of the day would be the best to come to the Valley of the Temples. Come nighttime for instance, and they light up all the temples with little candle flames and the whole area takes on a look that transports you millennia in history.
Sicily has some pretty terrific authentic Italian cuisine. Sicilian wine is famous for being made of the grapes that grow at the base of the volcano, and you’ll find that Italian cuisine with a Sicilian touch can be irresistible.
